Les Couillons take the gold!
This past Saturday, January 16th, 2010, was the day of yet another successful Begin
2 Believe event. The fourth installment of B2B's Indoor Volleyball Tournament for
Charity had 16 teams of 6 people embracing the soon-to-be olympic atmosphere by
going for the gold. In the end, Les Couillons, a new team to the Begin 2 Believe
events, took home first place. Fresh Start (regulars to the B2B events) were the
runners-up, and another new team, Ball Busters, came in third. Congratulations to
all participants, and thank you for your generosity as the event successful raised
$500 for the Canadian Red Cross that will be matched by the Government of Canada
and Export Development Canada for a gift triple in value (in light of the tragic
earthquake in Haiti), while $250 were raised for each of the Heart and Stroke Foundation
and the Canadian Liver Foundation.
As a past participant of the B2B events and a new volunteer, I would like to thank
all participants for making the events so enjoyable and exciting. Thank you to all
new and returning volunteers for allowing this great charity to continue to run
as smoothly and fun as it does. I would also like to thank those people who volunteered
to bake the delicious food sold in the Bake Sale. I hope to see you all at our next
event on Saturday, February 13th, 2010 for the B2B Dodgeball Tournament #5!

Begin 2 Believe wins an award!
February 13th 2010 was not only the first night of Olympic action but was also the
night of Begin 2 Believe's fifth Dodgeball Tournament for charity. Both the B2B
team and the participants were in for a pleasant surprise at the beginning of the
night when a crew from CTV was in attendance to award Begin 2 Believe with United
Way's Community Builder Award, accepted by President David Nguyen. The award is
given in recognition of individuals and groups who help "build a stronger, healthier
and more caring community." Participants were also given a brief talk from the regional
manager of the Canadian Liver Foundation Ottawa Chapter, who informed them about
liver diseases. With the games set to go, a total of 16 teams battled it out for
top prize. After many throws, hits, dodges, and bruises, top honours went to team
Magnum who took home the gold medals at the end of the night. Silver medals went
to BB! and bronze medals were rewarded to POW! Right in the Kisser!

It was great to be among the participants of this event, watching as everyone had
fun and fought hard for their wins. The night was very successful and brought in
$520 for the Canadian Liver Foundation. A thank you goes out to each and every one
who came out and supported the event, making it successful. It is always wonderful
to see so many people giving both their time and money to help make this organization
as effective as it is in contributing to our community. I hope everyone was able
to enjoy themselves and I hope to see you all back at our future events!

Heavy Hitters 2 wins the gold!
On March 27, 2009, participants witnessed yet another successful event held by the
Begin 2 Believe Association. This event marked the 5th indoor volleyball tournament
and the last of the season, before B2B activities hit the outdoors for the summer.
Again, the registration for the volleyball tournament reached its capacity at 16
teams and over 100 participants, all striving to reach the ultimate goal, to hold
the title of B2B volleyball champions! However, only one team could prevail, and
that was Heavy Hitters 2, living up to their pre-game guarantee to take home the
gold. Despite suffering injuries to 4 of their players, they fought through adversity
and displayed a great deal of perseverance and courage, going undefeated in the
process. The silver medal was awarded to Fresh Start, while third place was captured
by Your Mom Spikes Back in a grueling bronze medal game.

Aside from the breathtaking competition on the court, the event has raised $1000
for charity, where $500 was donated to the United Way, whose efforts has strengthen
our communities and improved the quality of life for Canadians. The other half of
the amount raised was donated to the Kids Help Phone line at a taekowndo break-a-thon
fundraising event. Last year, they helped Canadian kids in need well over two million
times through their phone and online counselling services.

On behalf of the B2B team, I would like to thank all of the volunteers for their
hard work in ensuring the event ran smoothly. Also, thank you to all of the participants
for their continuing support of B2B's events. The next event will be a beach volleyball
tournament held at Britannia Beach on Sunday, June 20th (Father's Day). This event
promises to be our biggest event yet, so stay tuned for more details as they will
be released shortly. Until then, get your popcorn ready!

Hey everyone!
Sunday, June 20th saw the latest edition of B2B's annual charity beach volleyball
event, this time held on the sandy beaches of Britannia Park to raise funds for
the Canadian Liver Foundation.

Donation to the Canadian Liver Foundation
Teams arrived shortly after 11:00AM Father's Day to scarce parking and some overcast,
but a little rain and the threat of a parking ticket wasn't going to dampen the
mood on B2B's biggest tournament to date! With the Hot 89.9 street team set-up and
the likes of Usher and Katy Perry playing through the giant speakers, teams quickly
signed their waiver forms, received their awesome, customized T-shirts, and gathered
for the mass B2B participant's photo. It was time to play some volleyball!
Our biggest event to date drew in 34 teams; for many participants this was their
first B2B event. Teams were organized pre-tournament into two divisions, competitive
and recreational, with two sets of medals awarded to the top three teams in each
division. Play on all courts was fun and competitive! Congratulations to our champions
Lazy Ninjas who took home gold-medal honours in the competitive division. Former
champions PLC took home the silver and Can You Dig it! goes home with the bronze.
Congratulations, also, to our recreational champions Bubbles who defeated Bolbol-saur
in the final. Ti-took took home the bronze.

At the end of the day 34 teams and over 500 participants raised $2375 for the Canadian
Liver Foundation! Special thanks to our generous sponsors at Hot 89.9, Gadar Promotions,
Red Bull, the Rogers Community Cruiser and Pizza Pizza for their support, and many
thanks to all the participants, volunteers and spectators for coming out to the
event.

July 17, 2010 was the day for another booming Begin 2 Believe event – dodgeball
at the Ottawa Hospital! Through intermittent rain and humid weather, 9 teams came
out in full form, eyeing the golden trophy that awaited the winner. Round robin
play saw 8 teams enter the playoffs with team Bolbol-saur taking home 1st prize.
Team Timbo were runner-ups, and Memory Of took home 3rd.
The event raised $370.00 for the Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre which helps
in the rehabilitation of people who have been affected by a disabling physical injury
or illness. As a participant whose team was out after the quarterfinals, I had an
amazing time. Like all Begin 2 Believe events, I had the opportunity to meet new
people in my community while playing a sport I love for a great cause. Thanks to
all the other participants and volunteers who made the event possible.
The next B2B event to look forward to is on August 28th 2010. Register by August
14th and take advantage of the early bird deal - $10/player! After early bird, registration
runs at $15/player. Volunteers are still needed for the event; if interested, please
email volunteer@begin2believe.com. Be sure to check out the
event page. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

On Saturday, July 24th, Begin 2 Believe held another victorious beach volleyball
event at Mooney's Bay. The weather was perfect - slightly cloudy with a light breeze.
What made this event so amazing was the level of enthusiasm everybody had. Thanks,
guys! In total 26 teams made their way to the beach. In the competitive division,
the champions were Just Dig It! with Rough Sets, and The Sharks taking second, and
third place, respectively. As well, the winning recreational league team was Bolbol-saur,
with Georgia Mud Fudges and The Gong Show rounding out the medal winners. Congratulations!
The event raised $800 for the David Smith Youth Treatment Centre.
David Smith Youth Treatment Center is a not-for-profit organization designed for
youth between the ages of 13-18 who require treatment and support for overcoming
substance abuse and for further developing a healthier lifestyle. For more information,
visit their website at http://www.davesmithcentre.org/.
I joined Begin 2 Believe about two months ago as a way to network and make a positive
impact within my community. B2B has given me the opportunity to experience this
and so much more. I have been given opportunities that I normally would never get
a chance to experience. I won't get into too much detail here but, as a student,
I have learned things that will help me prepare for real life, things that I know
I wouldn't learn in school. It's definitely a satisfying feeling.
Lastly, on behalf of the Begin 2 Believe team, I would like to thank all volunteers,
spectators, and of course team players who came out to make this event successful.
We couldn't have done it without the help from all of you guys.
